ALL BLACK VIBES: THE 6 ITEMS YOU NEED IN YOUR WARDROBE

As I’m sure you all know by now, my wardrobe is 90% items of black clothing, with the last 10% being white. If you need extra proof, here’s my Instagram feed, haha. You could say I live that good, monochrome life!

With that in mind, I think I’m somewhat qualified to recommend some of my all-black wardrobe staples. You know, those pieces that match with everything and are the pieces you reach for most days without fail because they are just that damn good.

BLACK SILK CAMI

Black silk camis are an absolute staple in any wardrobe. The perfect piece to match back with literally everything - denim skirts, silk skirts, jeans and formal pants, all for completely different looks. One of the most versatile pieces and definitely worth investing in so that it lasts you a lifetime. In this regard, I love Zimmermann and Ginia RTW silk camis - the ones I have in my wardrobe have lasted me years!

BLACK JEANS

A good pair of black jeans can take you places, guys! It wasn’t until I recently moved to Boston in the middle of winter that I truly appreciated the value of a pair of black jeans. Basically, I lived in them because nothing else kept me warm (haha) and I learnt to fall in love with them, haha. Perfect for not only Winter, but for the transitional seasons too, paired back with quite literally everything - sweaters, tees, camis, blazers - the list is endless! They can be dressed up for night time and made casual for the daytime too, so are probably the most versatile piece in anyone’s wardrobe.

Here, I am wearing the Everlane Kick-flare jeans which are an absolute dream. The quality is exceptional, the fit couldn’t be more perfect, and the ‘kick flip’ flare at the bottom is that added feature for a pair of black jeans - oh, and a nice excuse to get another pair as they are different to your normal black skinnies, haha. The high waist is a must have in any pair of jeans, so it ticks that box too.

BLACK TEE

My favourite thing about a black t-shirt is the ability to accessorise it in so many ways. Layered gold necklaces are usually my go-to addition, but throw on a pair of statement earrings and you can give a black t-shirt a completely different look. Again, it also goes with everything so is the perfect piece for your wardrobe. Make sure you get it in many different forms - a v-neck, round neck, loose fit, tight fit are all different - and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

BLACK HEELS

I just took a look at my shoe-drobe and literally every pair of heels I own are black, and I think that says something! Yes, that I’m obsessed with black as a colour, but also that if you’re going to be throwing on a pair of heels, you want them to work with lots of outfits so black is always best. Or maybe it’s just because I rarely wear heels so when I buy them, I buy them in a versatile colour, haha! I feel there’s also a classy element to a pair of black heels, do you agree?

LITTLE BLACK DRESS

The obvious one, yes, but it would'n’t be a staple black wardrobe piece list without it, would it?! When it comes to a little black dress, I always like it to have an interesting feature, so it’s elevated to the next level. Think puffy sleeve, belt detail, plunge neckline or interesting hem.

BLACK DENIM SKIRT

I couldn’t finish this list without a mention of probably one of my most worn wardrobe pieces, the black denim skirt. I think its one of my favourite black wardrobe pieces because of its versatility - its the perfect casual piece to wear with a t-shirt, but can also be elevated with a silk tank, blouse or a blazer for that perfect in-between look. It’s definitely the piece I throw on when I’m ducking out of the house on the weekend and want to look chilled but still somewhat put together!
